A time displaced Ferengi shuttle is captured by the United States Army. Although the craft and occupants eventually escape, several items of future technology are examined and reversed engineered at Area 51 in Nevada on Earth.

The Soviet Union launches Sputnik, the first artificial satellite. That same year a Vulcan survey craft crashes in Pennsylvania and encounters a young Jackson "Jack" Roykirk and his mother living in Carbon Creek. The Vulcans eventually leave Earth but not before giving humans the secret of Velcro.

An international secretive group of scientists create the first genetically modified humans, known as "Augments". The Augments are raised in isolation until the late 1970s as part of a top secret operation known as "Project Khan".

Height of the Brush Wars on Earth which take place in the nations of Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. The United States and Russia back both sides in the conflict.

The Apollo 11 mission successfully conducts man's first lunar landing on the Moon.

A Russian spy is captured onboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise. Although the spy eventually escapes, several advanced technology items are analyzed by the United States government leading to several technological breakthroughs.

1992
The Eugenics Wars begin when a group of Augments seize power in several third world countries and begin fighting amongst themselves. The developed world, such as the US and the UK, hide the true nature of the wars from the public by blaming the events on various terrorist groups in the Balkans and the Middle East.
BIll Clinton, who served as President of the United States throughout the Eugenics Wars, ordered the true nature of genetically engineered Augments to be kept from the general public.

Transparent Aluminum is invented by Doctor Walter Nichols, formerly of the San Francisco based glass company Plexicorps.
The Eugenics Wars escalate under the two largest Augment factions, led by the Great Khanate under Khan Noonien Singh and the Balkan Contingent under Vasily Hunyadi headquartered in Croatia. Several smaller Augment nations also join the factions from North Africa and the MIddle East.

After nearly fifty years of reverse engineering the Ferengi technology from Area 51, as well as the Russian spy equipment captured in 1986 onboard the USS Enterprise, the top secret group "Project F" at Area 51 designs an interstellar craft codenamed the "DY Series".
1996
The Eugenics Wars come to an end after a combined military force of American, Russian, European, and Chinese forces overthrow the last of the Augment tyrants. However, Khan Noonien Singh is never captured, leading to stories of a conspirarcy where Khan and several of his followers were allowed to escape Earth onboard a top secret space vessel called the "Botany Bay" which had been stolen from Area 51's DY-100 project.

The Nomad Interstellar Space Probe, designed by Dr. Jackson Roykirk, is launched from Earth. The probe is presumed destroyed after telemetry is lost in 2005 following the probe's collision with a meteor.

Using technology from the DY Project, NASA develops the DY-225 sleeper ship which is successfully piloted to Saturn by Colonel Shaun Geoffrey Christopher.

In response to homelessness and unemployment, the United States employs wide scale use of Sanctuary Districts in major US cities. Discontent in the districts eventually leads to a revolt in what becomes known as the Bell Riots.

The Second Civil War breaks out in the United States between conservative and liberal factions. Fighting is mainly confined to militia groups and domestic terrorism attacks which generally do not involve the full scale use of military forces.

The Third World War begins when several countries in Eastern Asia, known as the "Eastern Coalition" under the dictator Lee Kuan, attack South America with nuclear weapons. In the initial salvo, the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Shanghai are destroyed. The major superpowers of China, Russia, and the United States declare neutrality as does most of Europe.

The Europa Mission, commanded by Renée Picard, completes a four-year voyage to the Jovian moon and discovers extra-terrestrial sea life under the Europan ice. This is followed less than a year later by the discovery of living microbes on Io. Both discoveries would later help end climate change on Earth.

In Canada, Colonel Philip Green attacks the United States using Eco-Terrorist Brigades which commit wide scale atrocities in several major US cities, leading to thirty-seven million dead. The United States in turn declares war on Canada and quickly occupies Toronto, Vancouver, and large parts of Manitoba. Quebec declares neutrality and secedes from Canada, becoming an independent state.
The New United Nations is founded in Paris in an attempt to bring an end to the escalating Third World War. Most of the combatants adhere to the new charter and sign temporary cease fire agreements; however, in just over a decade fighting has resumed.

The Ares IV Mars mission is declared a failure after the command module, piloted by Lieutenant John Kelly disappears without a trace, leaving the Mars surface team stranded for several months.

The NASA space vessel Charybdis, under the command of Colonel Stephen Richey, is lost at the outer edge of the solar system. With the second major failure of a space mission within five years, NASA is disbanded less than a year later.

Following the death of eighty-seven-year-old Valdimir Putin, Russia re-founds the USSR and absorbs the former Soviet states into a new autocratic republic. The new capital of the USSR becomes the rechristened Leningrad, formerly Saint Petersburg.

The United Kingdom formally dissolves after Scotland declares independence. Ireland had previously reunited twenty years beforehand while Wales had ceased to exist as a separate state in the 2030s. The now independent England will become the fifty third state of the United States in 2080.

In what would become known as the most brutal year of the Third World War, the United States is attacked by the Eastern Coalition which by this time has annexed most of Central and South America. In response, the US launches its nuclear arsenal at Asia, prompting a similar launch from the Eastern Coalition. Meanwhile in Europe, the Soviet Union uses tactical nuclear weapons to destroy most major cities with the exception of Paris and London, both of which have declared themselves open cities.

Following a global nuclear exchange between Russia, Asia, and America, the death toll from World War III now stands at over six hundred million with most major cities destroyed and few remaining national governments. As a nuclear winter sets over the Earth, the warring factions agree to a cease fire signed in Paris on May 23, 2053.

Astrophysicist, inventor, and engineer Zephram Cochrane, formally a professor at Columbia University in New York City, relocates to Montana, his laboratory having been destroyed in World War III when New York City was targeted with nuclear weapons. Shortly afterwards, Cochrane begins to suffer from radiation poisoning causing the appearance of rapid aging.

On April 4th 2063 Zephram Cochrane successfully launches the Pheonix, humanity's first warp capable vessel. The flight is witnessed by a passing Vulcan survey craft who then land on Earth for official first contact. Zephram Cochrane would claim in later years his warp flight was nearly sabotaged by a mechanical cyborg race from the future, but at the time his story is generally dismissed.

The New United Nations launches the warp ship SS Valiant, the first of her class with a top speed of warp 1.2. The Valiant, designed for deep space exploration, heads out into the Milky Way Galaxy but is seemingly destroyed by a magnetic storm. It is later learned the storm swept the Valiant to the edge of the galaxy where the ship was destroyed by her captain after several of the crew mutated into psionic super beings as a result of exposure to an energy barrier located at the galaxy's rim.

The United Earth Space Probe Agency (UESPA) is founded as an international space agency tasked with overseeing man's continued expansion into space. The first vessel launched by UESPA is the warp probe Friendship 1.

The Eastern Coalition collapses, sending most of Asia into anarchy and beginning the era of the "Post Atomic Horror". The New United Nations disbands four years later, unable to stop the spreading wave of genocide and barbarism.

The Terra Nova Colony is founded by colonists from the SS Conestoga twenty light years from Earth. Within the space of five years, Terra Nova had broken off contact with Earth and is considered a failed colony with the inhabitants presumed dead from disease.

The North American Union is formed as Earth's first "super nation". All countries in North America become subordinate states while England and Greenland become protectorates.

Shortly after founding the Warp Five Complex in Bozeman, Montana, the eighty-seven year-old Zephram Cochrane disappears after piloting a small scout craft first to Alpha Centauri and then into uncharted space.

The New World Economy is established, eliminating currency on Earth and shifting towards a society of self betterment and a sharing of resources. Within a few short years, poverty and strife completely disappear from Earth.
